Brookwood School Manchester MA Speaker Event, New York Times Best Selling Author

Celebrating its fifth year anniversary, Brookwood’s 4 to 14 Speaker Series: Parenting Elementary School Kids is pleased to welcome two writers of note who will once again speak to parents on issues of parenting, raising healthy children, and navigating the ups and downs of family life.
On Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 7 p.m. Brookwood welcomes well known author Dr. Madeline Levine, whose latest book, Teach Your Children Well: Why Values and Coping Skills Matter More Than Grades, Trophies, or "Fat Envelopes" , is a New York Times bestseller. 

The second speaker of the 4 to 14 anniversary season, on February 10, 2016, is Dr. Jennifer Bryan who will discuss the topics of gender, sexual identity, and helping our kids navigate gender stereotypes.

United States Coast Guard Station Gloucester is having an open house during the Gloucester Schooner Festival!  Stop by and learn all about the Coast Guard and its important role in Gloucester!  Tour the operations center at the station, climb aboard one of the station's motor life boats and get up close and personal with the super fast response boat!

If you are expecting, or are considering starting a family, Anna Jaques Hospital invites you to a Birth Center Open House and tour. By attending, you are able to meet the obstetricians, gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, maternity nurses, pediatricians, neonatologists and family practice physicians who are available to take care of you during your pregnancy and after your baby is born. This will help you find the physician or midwife with whom you feel most comfortable. Once you have chosen your provider, you can begin scheduling the prenatal visits necessary for a healthy pregnancy. All physicians and midwives who deliver at the Anna Jaques Hospital Birth Center are board certified.

 

Kidleidoscope at Maudslay State Park is for preschoolers

Maudslay State Park has created this program for their youngest crowd! Here’s the perfect opportunity for your children to become acquainted with Maudslay and its resources. Each week introduces a new topic about nature with an engaging story, craft and a short walk that involves outdoor exploration. The topic varies each week, so come every week! The Gloucester Schooner Festival celebrates maritime, sailing and fishing herita

The Gloucester Schooner Festival is a  wonderful celebration of Gloucester's fishing and maritime history during labor day weekend. This year's festival, hosted by Maritime Gloucester,  is Gloucester’s major marine event, with participating vessels coming from ports along the Eastern seaboard and beyond. There will be both large and small vessels—ranging from 19 feet to over 100 feet in length. You will see new boats and old boats, from newly built (Ardelle - launched 2011) to over 100 years old!

 

Get fresh local produce at the Beverly Farmers Market in downtown Beverly Massac

This is a great farmers' market connected to a large grassy park in downtown Beverly.  There is always music and a lot of shade.  The market offers fresh local produce as well as cheese, meat, eggs, bread, muffins, dog treats, massage, jewelry, and books.  The kids have a blast playing tag, meeting new friends, and listening to music.  The park is dog friendly, has plenty of parking and access to the commuter rail. This is a wonderful spot for an impromptu picnic!

Enjoy a guided tour of Halibut Point State Park around the Babson Farm Quarry, unearthing the granite industry era followed by a traditional hand-tool stone splitting demonstration.  Halibut Point itself is made of sheets of 440 million year-old granite that now cascades from rocky headlands to the abundant tidal pools below. The panorama encompasses views from Crane Beach in Ipswich to Mount Agamenticus in Maine and the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire. This glorious natural landscape is breathtaking and inspiring.
