Gingerbread Contest & Gingerbread Express
Bring the family to enjoy the holiday favorite Gingerbread Express model train layout on display featuing gingerbread houses, farms, castles and more all created by local professional and amateur bakers. Make sure to cast a ballot for your favorite gingerbread creation. Visitors will view a gingerbread village, complete with a running G-gauge model train, with Santa as the conductor, can be seen.
“The Gingerbread Express delights people of all ages — from 2 to 92. They seem to love looking at each individual gingerbread structure and then vote for their favorite. Each entry is unique and has a story behind it,” said Mary Barthelmes, museum marketing manager.
“The idea of a gingerbread contest came from our mission of interpreting how we have lived, worked, dressed and played through three centuries. Holiday celebrations are certainly a big part of that and decorating gingerbread is a tradition that dates back to Colonial times. The contest invites our visitors to participate in exhibiting their contemporary take on this traditional art form,” said Mary McDonald, the Museum's educator.
