Kick-a-Thon to Benefit the MDA

Proceeds from Gloucester Uechi Karate Kick-a-Thon in Gloucester benefit the MDA

Local students at Gloucester Uechi Karate Academy of Gloucester will participate in a Kick-A-Thon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association! Students are collecting sponsorships from friends, family and neighbors, and using their healthy muscles to help others whose muscles are not as strong. The fundraising goal is $10,000, with all proceeds going to benefit the MDA – a non-profit organization servicing over 2000 families in Massachusetts, with more than 600 of those families coming from communities on the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.

The students will kick for a pre-determined amount of time for those who can’t kick for themselves. Participating students have a chance to win great prizes at the Kick-A-Thon, but most importantly, they are helping local families who are affected by neuromuscular disease.

The public are welcome to attend the Kick-A-Thon.  You can watch students demonstrate their skills, partake in live raffles and get a treat at the fundraiser bake sale.

Stop by, have a treat, make a donation and get a complimentary chair massage! It's a great way to start your weekend and you'll be helping a worthy cause.

If you are interested in sponsoring a kicker, please call or email Gloucester Uechi Karate Academy to make arrangements!

Funds raised through the Kick-a-Thon will be used to help improve the quality of life for local children and adults served by MDA. These funds will help support research, clinics, support groups, and a special summer camp program. The Muscular Dystrophy Association covers 43 different neuromuscular diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (the most common form of muscular dystrophy in young boys), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
